dLAN® Cockpit: devolo presents innovative powerline software for home users

devolo AG of Aachen, Germany, the global market leader for powerline-based network solutions, is presenting the first comprehensive powerline software for home users with dLAN® Cockpit. In addition to numerous status displays, such as the connection quality of the individual dLAN® adapters, the intuitively operated program also offers control over encryption and configuration. With targeted tips and other useful features, a software wizard provides for optimisation of the transmission rate in the dLAN® network and enables adapter updates over the network. dLAN® Cockpit is planned for all current operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS X and Linux and is already available for download for all current Microsoft OS versions.

devolo, the technological leader in the powerline market, is presenting dLAN® Cockpit, a new powerline software program that makes it possible for even beginners to monitor and optimise their dLAN® home network in an innovative way. In doing so, devolo is meeting customers‘ requests for an intuitively operated status and configuration solution and is the first powerline manufacturer to present such comprehensive and easy-to-use software for home users worldwide.

dLAN® Cockpit is far more than just a status monitor for the powerline network: In its network display, the graphically appealing software shows the connection speed of all adapters in the dLAN® network. This allows the user to see immediately how fast the dLAN® data transmission is between the home office and the living room, for example. A dLAN® optimisation wizard gives tips for how to optimise the data transmission speed using easy measures that can be implemented quickly. Simultaneously, the dLAN® Cockpit is also used to configure the adapter‘s encryption. When devolo provides an update to help its adapters perform better, this update can now be carried out directly in the network. This represents a large gain in convenience, as this had previously been possible only for each device individually. In addition to individual configuration of an individual dLAN® adapter, network-wide configuration is also possible for the first time. In addition to the functional aspect, devolo invested a lot of development effort into the graphic design of the software interface. The objective was an intuitively operated interface that appeals to beginners as well as ambitious users and makes the comprehensive functionality of the program directly accessible. For example, the adapters are presented in the main menu in their topological order in the network. Using the mouse to click one of the adapters is all it takes to display all the relevant information.

Now as before, devolo is sticking to its plug-and-play philosophy: Plug it in, press the encryption button, done! This enables configuration of the dLAN® network without any computers. "Ease of use is a top priority for devolo. All dLAN® adapters are easy to install without the help of a computer," comments Werner Fehn, Director of Product Management of devolo AG. "But we know from our regular customer surveys that not only ambitious dLAN® customers want to monitor and optimise their dLAN® network using a software tool. We are happy to meet this desire with dLAN® Cockpit. It combines the functionality of the programs we have offered so far and complements them with a comprehensive control panel - the Cockpit." Heiko Harbers, CEO of devolo AG, sums it up: "With the dLAN® Cockpit, devolo is clearly reinforcing its claim to leadership in the powerline market and thereby also becomes a benchmark for the competitors in this segment."

dLAN® Cockpit is suitable for all dLAN® 200 AV consumer devices and is available for download starting immediately for all current Microsoft operating systems, such as Windows XP, Vista and 7. Versions for Mac OS X and Linux will follow. dLAN® Cockpit is available on the software CD included with the devolo adapters and can also be downloaded for dLAN® users free of charge from the devolo website.
